Ettus Research™, a National Instruments (NI) company since 2010, was founded in 2004 to produce high quality, low-cost software radio systems, and bring these capabilities to everyone. They ship thousands of products to users in over 67 countries. Their products have been used for everything from mapping the Earth, moon, and stars to tracking wildlife, from teaching signal processing to obtaining a PhD., by everyone from individual hobbyists to huge research teams, for communicating across a desk, underwater, underground, across town, and around the world.
Ettus’ previous website was visually and technically dated. Ettus wanted to enhance their marketing efforts for their products by redesigning their website on a modern platform. Their new site needed to not only be engaging and intuitive for visitors but also provide a mobile-friendly experience for tablets and smartphones.
White Lion designed and developed a custom WordPress website for Ettus Research that is clean and modern. We built in custom product pages and created a shopping cart system to tie ecommerce into the National Instruments payment system. Special consideration was also planned for mobile sizes to allow users to access information when screen sizes are limited.
Clean Design that is Modern and Mobile Friendly
Early in the process, we worked with the client to plan out several top-level pages to help boost their messaging and user navigation to product pages. We brightened up their previous color palate and maintained a sophisticated look for a technical product. The end result is a site which scales nicely from desktop computers, down to tablets and smartphones. This allows the user to experience a similar design regardless of the device they are on without having to zoom in or pan around the screen.
Custom Product Page Layouts
Ettus Research product pages have several types of content with various relationships to related products like compatible products, custom cables, and various power cords. Our solution offers the user a clean interface allowing them to view details organized in tabs and related products in tables. When viewed on a mobile device, the experience is modified to a collapsed version showing users all available choices before they reveal expanded information.
Parts List Shopping Cart and Ecommerce Integration
We used our expertise to allow users to purchase selected items through the National Instruments website even though we did not do a full ecommerce integration for the Ettus website. Users can browse available parts, add them to the Parts List we created, review their order, and checkout on the parent site. We are highly skilled at 3rd-party integrations and finding the right solution is a challenge we love to tackle.
Ettus Research’s new website brings them up to speed with several new features they didn’t previously have including a blog and a custom method to announce events. Now that the site is in a custom WordPress theme they have a foundation which can support future phase upgrades much better as their market demands dictate.
